The Mid Trent Local Cancer Network forms part of the East Midlands Cancer Network (established on the 1st October 2010) along with the Derby-Burton Local Cancer Network and the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Local Cancer Network. 

The vision and purpose of the East Midlands Cancer Network:

• We will deliver World Class Services in a World Class Network
• We will ensure strong, effective care pathways
• We will contribute to improved outcomes
• We will ensure all inqualities are minimised 

Supporting the vision and purpose of the East Midlands Cancer Network the purpose of the Mid Trent Local Cancer Network is to provide leadership and direction across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire to:

• prevent people getting cancer
• ensure early detection for those that do and
• secure optimum treatment

We will do so by working in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations, patients, carers and the general public.  We will always remember the people we are here to serve and try, as much as possible, to see things from a patient perspective.

The Mid Trent Local Cancer Network (MTLCN) was established in 1995 and covers Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.  It encompasses three acute trusts and three primary care trusts and provides cancer and palliative care services to the people of Boston, Grantham, Newark, Lincoln, Mansfield, Nottingham.

• 1.7 million population spread over 3500 square miles 4 Acute Trusts based on 7 hospital sites:-
• 1 Cancer Centre (at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust)
• 1 Cancer Unit with Radiotherapy (Lincoln County Hospital)
• 1 Cancer Unit (Kings Mill Hospital)
• 3 Primary Care Trusts incorporating approximately 301 GP practices
• 1 Strategic Health Authority (East Midlands Strategic Health Authority).

Network Site Specific Groups and Network Generic Groups

There are over 30 different Network Site Specific Groups and Network Generic Groups within the Mid Trent Local Cancer Network, made up of clinicians, Mangers, Healthcare Professionals and patients/carers. These groups provide clinical leadership and expertise in the develpoment of cancer, palliative care and end of life care services through peer review, audit and the devleopment and implementation of local Clinical Guidelines and Protocols, and the implementation of national guidance (for example Improving Outcomes Guidance (IOG's) and NICE Guidelines).

These groups report to the Network Management Board (NMB).
